Woodlot (293 Palmerston Avenue, Toronto)

Woodlot has been on my list of restaurants to visit for quite sometime. From the moment you walk in, you immediately feel the warmth of the restaurant with the kitschy, rustic interior, aromas from the woodfire oven and the great intimate atmosphere. The food is fresh and comforting, a great place to cozy up with good company.

Fresh bread from their wood fire oven.
Delicious selection of bread with whipped butter.

Charred Haloumi Crostini
Squash + Figs + Basil
My favourite item of the night. Delicious crostini topped with a sweet, silky butternut squash, a torched salty sheep's milk goat cheese combined with sweet figs and a fresh touch of basil.

Fresh Burrata and Heirloom Tomato Salad
Rye berries + summer herbs + preserved lemon + currants
Love fresh burrata and heirloom tomatoes. Really excellent pairing with the rye berries and currants, again with the sweet and salty element. Delicious.

Russet Potato Gnocchi + Bacon + Pumpkin Seeds
The gnocchi was sadly overcooked but the flavours of the dish were on point. The bacon paired with a creamy sauce and pumpkin seeds were a wonderful flavour combination, if only the textures had been better. Kindly they took this dish off our bill which was greatly appreciated.

Whey-Fed Pork Chop + Pear + Bitter Almond
Again great flavours with the sweet pear and almond puree with the fatty, salty pork. Our pork was slightly overcooked but still an enjoyable dish.

Brussel Sprouts + Proscuitto+ Bechamel Sauce
Great take on brussel spouts. Deliciously creamy, salty and crunchy. A great side!
